BFS Product Descriptions
BFS Industries was founded in 1946 by John Garbarino and remains a family-owned business today. Our journey has taken us from modest beginnings in a small fabrication shop in Brooklyn, NY, to expanded facilities on Long Island to their manufacturing plant in Butner, NC.

Class “S” Spray/Scrubber Type Deaerators
The spray or spray/scrubber deaerator has a wide product range from 3,500 #/hr to 500,000 #/hr and higher. It is best used for fairly stable loads and constant water inlet temperatures. It is the most economically priced unit in the 7,000 #/hr and higher flow range.
In the spray type unit, water is sprayed into a pressurized steam atmosphere (first stage deaeration) in order to preheat and partially deaerate the incoming water. The water is then directed to the scrubber (second stage deaeration), where the water is violently scrubbed to remove the final traces of oxygen. The steam acts as a carrier gas, to expel the removed oxygen out the deaerator vent. The deaerated water is then ready for use by the boiler, at saturated temperature and with oxygen levels at .005 cc/liter.
Customization of the spray type deaerator is available in any configuration including:
- Vertical orientation
- Dual compartment (deaerator with attached surge tank)
- Single skid deaerator/surge packages in over/under or end-to-end arrangements

Class “T” Tray Type Deaerators
The tray or spray/tray deaerator is our most versatile and rugged deaerator unit. It is offered in a range of 3,500 #/hr to 2,000,000 #/hr and higher. This unit can handle severe load swings, varying inlet water temperatures, and changing operating pressures while maintaining deaeration efficiency. It is typically priced higher than the other types of deaerators in a given size range.
In the tray type unit, water is sprayed into a pressurized steam atmosphere (first stage deaeration) in order to preheat and partially deaerate the incoming water. The water then cascades down through a series of stainless steel trays, while the countercurrent steam flow scrubs the remaining traces of oxygen out of the water. The steam acts as a carrier gas, to expel the removed oxygen out the vent. The deaerated water then falls into the horizontal storage section and is ready for use by the boiler, at saturated temperature and with oxygen levels at .005 cc/liter.
Customization of the tray type is available in any configuration including:
- Vertical orientation
- Dual compartment (deaerator with attached surge tank)
- Single skid deaerator/surge packages in over/under or end-to-end arrangements

Class “P” Packed Column Type Deaerators
Packed column type deaerators are generally used for very small boiler applications with a product range of 200 #/hr to 11,000 #/hr. This deaerator design is particularly efficient at deaerating very low flow rates. It is the most economically priced unit below 7,000 #/hr flow range.
In the packed column unit, water is sprayed into a pressurized steam atmosphere (first stage deaeration) in order to preheat and partially deaerate the incoming water. The water then cascades down through a vertical stainless steel column filled with stainless steel packing material, while the countercurrent steam flow scrubs the remaining traces of oxygen out of the water. The steam acts as a carrier gas, to expel the removed oxygen out the vent. The deaerated water then falls into the horizontal storage section and is ready for use by the boiler, at saturated temperature and with oxygen levels at .005 cc/liter.

Surge Systems
The perfect match: A ZER-O-PAC Surge/Transfer System and a ZER-O-PAC deaerating system. Both are designed and manufactured by BFS Industries, a name associated with quality since 1946.
A surge/transfer system is an important component in a steam system when there is a high volume of condensate returns, or the returns come back in “slugs.” A boiler surge tank will allow this condensate to be collected at varying rates and transfer the condensate/make-up mix to the deaerator under steady state conditions.
ZER-O-PAC surge/transfer systems are available in 18 standard sizes ranging from 3,500 #/hr to 150,000 #/hr, with an unlimited selection of non-standard sizes and options.

Feed-Pac Boiler Feed & Condensate Systems, Elevated Receivers
BFS Industries manufactures a full line of standard boiler feed and condensate systems with elevated receivers. These are equipped with heavy gauge carbon steel tanks in standard capacities from 30 gallons to 2000 gallons.
Boiler feed pumps are available in horizontal or vertical types to fit your application. For your “non-standard” requirements, tanks of any size, material, or configuration, electric controls with any level of sophistication and pumps of any style or manufacturer.
Send us your application requirements, and we will design a boiler feed system for you.

Feed-Pac “LPR” (Low Profile Round) Boiler Feed Systems
BFS Industries “LPR” Series boiler feed systems provide a high-quality, low-cost solution to your boiler feed requirements. The floor mounted tank design allows for the collection of condensate from low head condensate returns.
Boiler feed tanks are constructed of heavy gauge carbon steel, with heavier gauge carbon steel or stainless steel construction also available. The boiler feed pumps are industrial grade with rugged cast iron casing, bronze impeller, and high temperature seal.
Non-standard tank sizes and pumps are also available.

Feed-Pac “LPS” (Low Profile Square) Condensate Systems
BFS Industries “LPS” Series condensate systems have been designed to provide the lowest possible return inlet and minimize floor space (they will fit into a corner out of the way), while providing trouble free operation.
These systems are available in standard sizes rated from 12,000 sq. ft. EDR to 55,000 sq. ft. EDR with pump discharge pressures from 20 psig to 40 psig. Our condensate tanks are constructed of heavy gauge carbon steel, with stainless steel also available. The condensate pumps are industrial grade, with rugged cast iron casing, bronze impeller, and high temperature mechanical seal.
Custom configurations, pump sizes, and larger condensate receivers are available.

Accu-Flow Motorized Ball Valve Assembly
The Accu-Flow motorized ball valve assembly modulates boiler feed water and is standard on ZER-O-PAC BFS deaerators, as well as some of our Feed-Pac products. Our team wasn’t satisfied with what was on the market, so we developed this fill valve in-house.
Class I Insulation System
The Class I Insulation System works to hold in heat and save energy at a low upfront cost. This jacket is a good fit for any tank where insulation is required. The poly-foam is 3 ⅛ inches thick and is easily removed for inspections or repair.
Blowdown Tanks
Blowdown tanks are required with every boiler to prevent buildup and safely discharge water. Our boiler blowdown tanks are designed to keep your system operating at top efficiency and extend the system’s life.
Blowdown Heat Recovery Systems
Functioning similarly to our blowdown tanks, this product adds the heat recovery component. A blowdown heat recovery system maximizes your boiler feed system’s efficiency and can save you money in the long run.
Flash Tanks
When a boiler heats up water, pressure is necessary to create steam. Flash tanks provide a place for the water to convert to steam, then recover that steam, which can be used elsewhere in the plant.
BFS Industries can help you determine if a steam flash tank is the right add-on for your boiler feed system.
Pump Skids
Not all systems require a tank, and in these cases, a pump skid could be an effective solution for moving water. Talk to our team about whether pump skids are right for your system.
